What can we expect?

At Tablespoon, we like our classes to be fun, relaxed, and laid back so students can expect to have a ton of fun! While we want everyone to have a good time, we expect students to be respectful of staff, others attending, and to be mature in serious situations. Cooking is meant to be fun and enjoyable, but when there are fire and knives involved we expect students to treat being in the kitchen seriously for the safety of themselves, the staff, and other students.

How do I decide which age group is appropriate for my camper?

Our camps are divided into two age groups: kids (ages 7-12) and young chefs (ages 11-15). The overlap allows for flexibility for parents and campers to choose where they are most comfortable. It also allows for close in age siblings or friends to attend together if they wish. If you're not sure which session is right for your camper, please reach out to our staff and we're happy to help make a recommendation.

I think my child falls somewhere between the age groups. What would you recommend?

We encourage you to talk with your camper and see what they are most comfortable with! Going to a new camp can be scary and exciting at the same time, but we want to make sure that everyone is safe and appropriately challenged.

What time will the camps run?

The camps will run from 10:30am - 1:30 pm on Monday - Friday of each week.

My child has an allergy. Can they still come?

Most likely, yes! But please contact us before registering so we can discuss the severity and make sure we are able to provide a safe space for your child to cook and eat.

What if I'm not able to drop-off or pick-up my child right at the start/end of camp?

No worries! We offer a flexible drop-off window of 10-10:30am and a pick-up window of 3:00-3:30pm. The campers can choose to either sit and chill out before class or even help the chefs with class set up and clean up!

Are parents allowed to stay?

Camp Tablespoon is designed to be a drop-off camp as we want the campers to feel independent in the kitchen. We recommend spending time around Findlay Market or Washington Park if you would like to stay nearby. If there is a special circumstance that requires you to stay, please email us and we can figure out options.

What does the camp include?

Each day of the camp will be comprised of hands-on activities mixed in with demonstrations by staff. The campers will be able to eat everything they made that day, and might even have leftovers to take home! We will provide snacks and drinks to make sure that they are covered throughout the day, however if there is a dietary restriction we always recommend packing something specific. Campers will also receive a special TBSP Kids Camp t-shirt as well as printed recipes of everything we made that day to take home.

What if the session that I want is sold out?

No worries! We will add you to the waitlist and notify you the minute a spot comes available. We will also contact you if we decide to open up another session of the same class!

What clothing should be worn during camp days?

While we never plan on getting messy in the kitchen, sometimes it happens! Campers will wear aprons during class but we recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you are okay getting a little dirty. We also require flat, closed toed shoes and recommend having long hair pulled back and secured.

Can my campers cook together?

Yes! Camp Tablespoon is a perfect opportunity for friends, cousins, or siblings to have fun together. When you go to the sign-up, please be prepared to register your group together (you'll get a discount too!). We can accommodate groups of up to 4 campers per station. If you have a larger group, please email us and we will do our best to make sure that everyone who wants to be together is able to be together. If you register a solo camper, they'll be cooking at their own station.

What are your COVID-19 protocols in the kitchen?

We're following all CDC, state and local guidelines. As of now, all staff and campers will be expected to wear masks when not actively eating or drinking. Solo campers will work individually at a socially distanced station. Those signing up in groups will be stationed together but socially distanced from other campers. Sanitation and hygiene protocols will be followed and also taught to the campers.
